Martial arts are traditional codified systems of various combat practices for self-defense, physical health, and fitness, competition, entertainment, the mental and spiritual development that has been around for centuries. Martial arts consist of various disciplines such as striking, takedown styles, grappling and many such kinds to learn along the way. Here are some of the unique martial arts types that have become popular these days and times.


Kickboxing started in the early 1970’s developed from Thai-Boxing and influenced by other Martial Arts. It places a significant emphasis on light, fast strikes scoring points with lighter contact these days.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is based on ground fighting and is one of the most popular grappling arts across ages. The main weapon used in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the submissions. This is because practitioners can either choke an opponent or break joints or manipulate with pressure. Experts in this type of martial arts have comfortable backs that make them possible for self-defense in various situations.


This type of martial art involves open hand strikes, elbows, kicks, punches, and knees to gain the advantage over an opponent. Practitioners are taught with proper breathing techniques to block incoming attacks that help to be successful at this martial art. Karate may also include throws and submissions in some types where the practitioners develop the ability to defend themselves irrespective of the position.


Wrestling is the first formed martial art that dates back around 1100 AD. Judo and Sambo have evolved from wrestling, and this martial art mainly involves ground fighting and takedowns. Wrestling is a popular sport in the modern Olympic Games where Greco-Roman and freestyle forms have been incorporated with it.


It is a popular Japanese sport developed by Jigoro Kano that was formerly known as Kano Ju-Jitsu. It is a sport that focuses on throws or trips and taking attackers to the ground thereby trying to immobilize the attacker with pins and locks. This martial art offers the flexibility and fitness for the practitioners.


Taekwondo is a Korean Martial Art that is fast, light and involves high kicks. Many clubs are focusing on the sports side of this art type for competitions, point scoring sparring or around forms.
